William Lewis Long, 84 of Garrard County, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Born December 2, 1941, he was the son of the late William Samuel Long and Nellie Rose Robinson Long Holderman. In addition to his parents, Lewis was also preceded in death by his grandson, John Pulliam, III; a step-grandson, Spencer Timberlake; son-in-law, Barry Taylor; and sister-in-law, Sandy Long.
Lewis was a member of Gilberts Creek Baptist Church in Garrard County. Lewis worked as a crane operator for Armco Steel. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Lewis loved listening to gospel music. He also loved dogs, especially Beagle Hounds and raised and trained Field Trial Beagle Hounds.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Coke Long of Garrard County; daughters: Lisa Long of Mercer County, Lou Ann Taylor of Mercer County, Bethany Meriwether of Frankfort, and Linda Jo McKinley of Louisville; bonus daughters, Tammy (Shane) Randolph of Hustonville and Margaret (David) Fralix of Clay County; brothers, Kenneth Long and Steve (Sharon) Long, both of Mercer County; grandchildren: Travis Robinson, Lexi Darland, Jordan (Katie) Taylor, Savannah (Daulton) Peters, Sydney Parish, Nicholas Clay Parish, Dalton (Skye) Meriwether, and Joee Rose Reeder; bonus grandchildren: Hannah (Cameron) Honaker, Courtney (Jordan) Elliott, Jonathon (Katie) Randolph, Jacob Randolph, Madison (Daniel) Fonseca, and Isaiah Fralix; great grandchildren: Addison and Ashton Cox, Addy and Blakely Taylor, Oakley and Barrett Peters, Brantley Meriwether, Jaxson Meriwether; and bonus great-grandchildren: NoraKate and Mayhan Timberlake, Huxlee, Porter, and Bryles Honaker, Miles Hamilton, Lenny Elliott, Clara Randolph, and Vada and Mavie Fonseca.
Visitation is 11am-1pm, Monday, July 20, 2026, at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 1 pm with Bro. Jerry Browning and Bro. John McDaniels officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Mercer County. Pallbearers are Dalton Meriwether, Isaiah Fralix, Camerson Honaker, Jordan Elliott, Jacob Randolph, Neale Behm, Chris Burner, and Dustin Butner.
