Obituary

Wilbern Coleman "W.C." Brogle, 95, of Hustonville entered into his Heavenly rest Friday, April 24, 2026.  Born April 17, 1931, he was the son of the late Isaiah Joseph and Mattie Thomas Edgington Brogle. He was married for 68 years to the late Ida Mae East Brogle, and together they faithfully modeled the wonderful gift and blessing of a Godly marriage.

W.C. was a US Marine Veteran.  He was a founding member of Unity Baptist Church in Danville. He was a wonderful Christian man, a devoted husband, a dedicated father and grandfather, an excellent and devoted farmer, and a faithful friend to all who knew him.

Dub, as he was affectionately known by many, taught his family and friends what it means to trust in God's goodness and faithfulness, diligently and patiently farming for all of his life. To farm is to trust in the providence of God, and Dub exemplified what it means to do just that. He sowed and he reaped, steady and faithful to do the work that God placed before him. He also taught us how to do our task with joy, as to be around Dub any at all was to hear him share a funny quip, often infusing it with some timeless truth, as he did so well. He was exceedingly wise, and he knew how to share that wisdom in a way that made his hearer receptive to hear it. He also modeled diligence, as even into his 90s, he was always willing to work, driving a tractor and tending his cattle. Dub had no intention of retiring from the work that God had called him to do. Dub told us that there was good in every day and then taught us to find it. He also taught us that there are some days that it feels like the sunshine just will not end, and we are immensely thankful that he is enjoying that eternal sunshine right now.

Dub and Nana's house was a place where the Gospel was modeled. We were always welcome to enter, and we were always met with love, grace, and acceptance. There was always something to feed both our bodies and our souls. There is no way to count the number of times the two of them held hands to pray, and Dub would never fail to pray for the salvation of his grandchildren. It was a place of love and laughter, and we are most richly blessed to get to be a part of this Godly inheritance. Dub loved well and wisely, shepherding the people God placed in his path. His influence in the lives of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family and friends cannot be overstated.

W.C. is survived by his son, Thomas (Jennifer) Brogle of Hustonville; four daughters:  Leticia (Calvin) Smith of Hustonville, Annita (Jason) Witte of Hustonville, Terry (Tim) Crawford of Lancaster, and Lona (Kenny) Merriman of Hustonville; twenty grandchildren:  Julia (Brian) Duncan of Stanford, Jesse Jones of Austin, Texas, Bradley (Heather) Witte of Hustonville, Brett (Kenzi) Witte of Hustonville, Dallas (Samantha) Crawford of Lancaster, Hannah (Jon) Witt of Nicholasville, Mattie Crawford of Travelers Rest, SC, Carrie (Andrew) Ditty of Middlesboro, Michael (Corrie) Brogle of Danville, Bobi (R.D.)
