Vincent Douglas
Tucker
d. Jul 18, 2020
Danville
Vincent Douglas Tucker left this Earth on July 18, 2020 at his home in Danville, KY. Born in Paris, KY, he was preceded in death by his mother and father, James Richard and Sonja Bradley Tucker of Paris, KY.
He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Robin Compton Tucker, and his children, Brianna Nicole Tucker, Connor James Tucker and Landon Douglas Tucker-Davis. He is also survived by his three brothers, Victor Douglas Tucker (Ondria) of Paris, KY and James Alexander Tucker (Valerie) of Mauldin, SC and Rodney Jackson (Roy Ann) of Columbus, OH. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews; Alishia Tucker Euler, Cassondra Tucker, Jameson Tucker, Jonathan Tucker, Tara Jackson, Shannon Jackson and Rodney Jackson.
A prolific athlete, Vince was named the Best Defensive Lineman and Team MVP at Paris High School. The crushing hit he put on the return player from Dayton High School is considered to be one of the hardest hits by a Greyhound player in the history of the football program. He was also named All-District, All-CKC, All-State, and would later be named to the Greyhound Hall of Fame in 2011.
After his stellar career at Paris High School, he went on to receive a football scholarship at Murray State University where he played inside linebacker on a Wide Tackle 6 known as "The Crunch Bunch" and starting on the OVC Championship Team in 1979. In 1980, the Murray State Racers were the No. 1 team in the country helping turn the school's football program around and making the Racers a true force of nature on the gridiron. He was the Head Football Coach of Betsy Layne High School for two years before going on to coach at Danville High School where he helped them win 4 state football championships.
In addition to his accomplished coaching career, Vince was also a skilled carpenter and home builder in the Central Kentucky region. It is only fitting of a man who lived a life filled with hard work and perseverance, that he took his final breath in the home he carefully crafted with his own two hands. He also loved to travel and enjoyed visiting his "family" in Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands.
Known by those he coached as "The Silent Giant," his calm, kind and unflinching demeanor will be remembered by all who knew him.
"He was tough as a crowbar, quick as a chisel
Fair as a plane and true as a level
He was straight as a chalk line and right as a rule
He was square with the world, he took good care of his tools."
–The Carpenter
