Lowell Thomas "Tom Dooley" Byrd, 66, of Junction City passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. Born January 15, 1958, in Danville, KY, he was the son of the late Timothy Joe and Ella Mae Gibbons Byrd.
Tom was a life-long farmer, hard worker, and a jack of all trades. He worked at Boyle Block for 15 years before he became self-employed. He ran his own garage, Byrd's Body Shop, and later became a construction business owner of Tom Byrd's Construction.
Tom was always putting others before himself. He would give a stranger the shirt off his back. He always took others into his home to help them out, no matter the circumstances. He gave so many people opportunities to work for him. Tom was a loving and caring husband, daddy, and Papaw Tom. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Beverly Gayle Potter Byrd; a very special loving dog, Sophie; son, Brian Thomas Byrd (April); daughters: Tammy Jo Byrd Worthington (Johnny), Angela Gayle Byrd Uslin (Nate), and Carrie Denise Byrd Wiser (Shawn); grandchildren: JoHannah Worthington (William), Kelsey Worthington (Spincer), Katelin Byrd (Baylee), Hunter Naylor (Makayla), Jacob Naylor (Hannah), Eligh Wiser, and Zack and Xzavier; great-grandchildren: Paigeleigh Jewell, Levi Jewell, Kimber King, and Melody Reams; and brothers, Logan Calvin Byrd and Jerry Lee Byrd. In addition to his parents, Tom was also preceded in death by a son, Lowell Thomas Potter; great-grandson, Liam Jewell; sisters, Mary Louise Byrd Reed and Eva Mae Byrd Allen; and brothers, Freddie Lewis Byrd and William Byrd.
Visitation is 12-2 pm Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 2 pm with Bro. Keith Willoughby officiating. Mitchell Dean and Jaden Byrd will also be sharing reflections. Burial is at the Byrd Family Cemetery on Worldstown Road in Junction City, KY.
Pallbearers are Kenneth "Gomer" Maddox, David Owens, Joe Burchett, Johnny Worthington, Nate Uslin, Shawn Wiser, Gary Montgomery, Hunter Naylor, Jacob Naylor and Eligh Wiser. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Byrd, Tammy Worthington, Angela Uslin, Carrie Wiser, Jenniffer Hayes, JoHannah Worthington, Kelsey Worthington, Katelin Byrd, William Jewell, Spincer King, and Baylee Reams.
