Robert Lucian "Bobby" Ellis, 80, of Moreland passed away at his home on Friday, April 25, 2025. Born in Danville on May 3, 1944, he was the son of the late Lucian and Christine Timberlake Ellis.
Bobby attended grade school at Moreland and was a graduate of Hustonville High School, Class of 1962, where he played on the basketball teams. Following graduation, he joined the Army Reserves 100th Division. He grew up in Moreland Methodist Church and after marriage, he became a member of Hustonville Christian Church serving as a deacon. He was an avid UK basketball fan and especially enjoyed his evening rides with Brenda in his side by side. He liked trains, Ford trucks, and John Deere tractors. He enjoyed traveling and collecting NASCAR memorabilia and diecast 18-wheelers.
Bobby was a licensed funeral director and a dedicated employee at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. He began working at the funeral home when he was 13 years old washing the hearse and setting chairs. Bobby had also worked at Hester's Feed Store and at ATR.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 58 years, Brenda Higgins Ellis; son, Brent Ellis (Darra Roy); grandson, Lucian Roy Ellis, all of Moreland; granddaughter, Ciera Shedrick of Arizona; grandson, Logan (Krista) Hatter of Salvisa; granddaugher, Taylor Hatter of Casey County; sister-in-law, Brenda Roberts Ellis of Moreland; nephew, Brad (Melissa) Ellis of Danville; niece, Jeannie Gayle (David) Hurst of Garrard County; and great-niece, Eliza (Josh) Asmus and great-nephews, Hagen and Hunter Ellis and Caleb (Abigail) Hurst; and several cousins. In addition to his parents, Bobby was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Ellis, and a sister-in-law, Agnes Smith.
Visitation is Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. The funeral is Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 1:00 PM with Rev. Joe Altman and Rev. Bob Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Hustonville Cemetery. Pallbearers are Brad Ellis, Lucian Ellis, David Hurst, David Lush, Caleb Hurst, and Brent Ellis. Honorary pallbearers are the W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home family and "coffee shop" crew. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association. W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
