Mark Douglas
Terry
Jan 17, 1962 — Aug 4, 2026
Harrodsburg
Mark Douglas Terry, 64, of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Born in Orlando on January 17, 1962, he was the son of Elmer Earl Terry and Helen Joyce Keeton Terry.
Known to many as Mark, Doug, "Beloved Hero," Mart, or simply Grandaddy, he lived with courage, heart, and an unforgettable sense of fun. A proud Navy veteran, he served twenty years from 1987 until his retirement in 2007 as an Aviation Electrician's Mate First Class. As an F/A-18 systems technician, he deployed across five aircraft carriers-USS America , USS John F. Kennedy , USS Saratoga , USS Theodore Roosevelt , and USS Enterprise .
His Navy career spanned seven deployments and more than five years of sea duty, taking him from Operation Desert Storm aboard the Kennedy, to Kosovo operations with Strike Fighter Squadron 87, and later to a final tour maintaining SH-60 Seahawks with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 11 (HS-11) at Naval Air Station Jacksonville in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Among his decorations were the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, two Navy Achievement Medals, and the Good Conduct Medal with six awards.
After his military service, Mark and Ginnie became long-haul truckers, spending years driving together across the country. They shared the road as a team, accumulating millions of miles and seeing much of the country along the way.
As a young man, Mark played football and wrestled, and he competed in arm-wrestling tournaments. He loved a good competition and was always willing to test his strength against anyone up for the challenge.
An avid Elvis Presley fan, he dedicated a room in every home he owned to The King and built an impressive record collection over the years. Mark would often say, "There's Elvis, and then there's everyone else." He was always searching for the best karaoke dive bar in any city he visited, bringing laughter, music, and energy wherever he went.
He is survived by his sons, Grant Mitchel (Maggie) Terry of Palm Bay, Florida, and Brent William (Berkley) Terry of Oviedo, Florida; his stepchildren, Stephanie Christina Traver of Louisville, Kentucky, and Phillip Martin Traver of New Haven, Massachusetts; his brothers, David (NaTasha) Terry of Florida, Daniel (Ricka) Terry of Danville, and Delbert (Elaine) Terry of Danville; and his grandchildren, Henry, Gracie, Ellison, Caleb, Violet, and Ivy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouse of 15 years, Ginnie Terry.
Mark will be remembered for his courage, his devotion to his family, his love of music, his competitive spirit, and his ability to bring laughter wherever he went. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. LYMY.A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
