Lewis Charlton Brown, Sr. "Charlie" of Danville, KY passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. He was the husband of 42 years of Marie L. Brown. Born October 16, 1936, in Macon, Georgia, he was the son of the late Lewis Manda Brown and Inez Hancock Brown. Charlie graduated from Lanier Senior High School in Macon, GA; Mercer University with a BA in Biology; West Georgia University with a MA in Psychology; and an MBA from the University of Utah. He was a Financial Planner, Insurance and Securities Agent, an Adjunct Professor at Reinhardt College in Waleska, GA, and Residential Real Estate Agent.
Charlie was a dedicated US Army veteran who served in Maintenance Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division in Europe; Kitzinger, Germany; First Area Logistical Command, MAC-V Da Nang, Vietnam; and retired his active duty in 1975. He was a highly decorated veteran as an Army Colonel. His military awards consist of Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, 3 Meritorious Service Medals, 4 Army Commendation metals, Army Reserves Medal with 20 years' service, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Metal of Honor, and First Class (Vietnamese Awards). Charlie went on to serve in the Army Reserves and retired in 1996.
After moving from Georgia to Kentucky, his love of the arts drew him to the Community Theaters where he performed at Forkland for 10 years as Nathan Purdum, West T Hill in 4 shows, and Pioneer Playhouse.
He was the father of Lewis C Brown and Desma Holbrooks; stepfather to Michael Kachline; grandfather to: Lewis C. Brown, III, Aaron Brown (deceased), Amanda Holbrooks, Luke Holbrooks, James Kachline, Hazel Kachline; and great-grandfather to Isabel Brown and Little Charlie Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and to Diabetes Research.
Visitation is 10-11:30 am at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 11:30 am with Rev. Phil Majcher officiating. Burial will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. A Guestbook is available at www.wlpruitt.com.
