Obituary

John R. Sparr of Hustonville, KY., passed away peacefully on April 17th, 2025, at the age of 50 after a 3-year battle with cancer. Known for his work ethic, sharp wit, and deep love of nature, John lived a life rooted in tradition and adventure. John was an active member of McCormack Christian Church.

For nearly three decades, John worked in the rail industry where he became known not just for his skill and reliability, but also for the camaraderie he brought to the job. Whether in the office or out on the line, he was a steady presence and a mentor to many.

When he wasn't working, John could be found deep in the woods or on the water, doing what he loved most—hunting and fishing. With a rod in hand or a rifle slung over his shoulder, he felt most at home under open skies, surrounded by the peace and quiet of the wild. He believed in respecting the land and passing on the traditions he held dear to the next generation.

John is survived by a host of family, friends and loved ones who will carry on his stories, his values, and his enduring love for the great outdoors.

Survivors include his mother, Sharon Rae Reed (William) Everidge of Hustonville; father, John William Sparr of Liberty; brothers, Jordan (Ashley) Sparr of Stanford and J.P. (Alicia) Sparr of Lawrenceburg; soulmate, Sherry McFarland of Hustonville; niece, Jenna Sparr and nephew, Connor Sparr; and his fur baby, Rosie.

Visitation is 5-8 pm, Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home; Funeral Service is 11 am, Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Ricky Davis officiating. Burial will be at McCormack Christian Church Cemetery.
