Obituary

Joey Allen Martin, 71, of Danville went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 21, 2026. Born in Oberlin, Ohio on August 10, 1954, he was the son of the late Roy A. and Nella Lee Tucker Martin.

Joey was a man of strong Christian faith, serving faithfully as a deacon for several years at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Danville, Kentucky. He also poured his energy into the church's softball ministry, both as a player and a coach for many seasons. An avid fisherman at heart, Joey purchased a home on Herrington Lake more than 30 years ago, where he created countless cherished memories on the water. He also loved dirt track racing, tirelessly working on cars for local drivers in the garage and in the pits.

A master mechanic from the start—he began at age four in his father's garage, fitting into tight spaces to change points—Joey applied his exceptional skills throughout his career at The Muffler Shop in Danville, which he worked at or owned from 1980 to 2026.

Above all, nothing brought Joey more joy than his family. They were his greatest love; he found true happiness in helping, supporting, and caring for them in every way possible, leaving behind a lasting legacy of selflessness as a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather.

Joey is survived by his best friend and wife of 50 years, Vicki Vest Martin of Danville; son, Allen (Kristie) Martin of Danville; daughter, Ellen (TJ) Burdine of Franklin, Tennessee; sister, Molly (Terry) Stevens of Stanford; 6 grandchildren: Aram (Larissa) Martin, Kolton (Mara) Winfield of Danville, Havannah (Connor) Casey of Elizabethtown, Sydney, Cameron, and Finn Burdine of Franklin, Tennessee; great-grandson, Avery Elmore of Lexington, nieces and nephews: Steven (Melissa) Martin of Stanford, Connie (Chad) Gunterman of Parksville, Donna Jo (Robert) Cummins and Tim (Jennifer) Martin of Hustonville; great- nieces and great-nephews: Haley and Holly Gunterman, Cody Westerfield, Alexis Banks, Allison and Justin (Emily) Cummins, Jansen, Jax, Jayce, and Jett Martin.

In addition to his parents, Joey was preceded in death by his brothers: Roy Martin Jr., Joel Martin, and Donald Martin; and a nephew, Jason Martin.
