Douglas
Pierson
d. Apr 5, 2026
Danville
Nels Douglas Pierson finished his race on April 5, 2026—Resurrection Day—and was welcomed into the loving arms of his Savior. While our hearts grieve his absence, we rejoice in the promise he held so tightly: that death is not the end, but the beginning of eternal life with Christ.
Born in Virginia, Doug spent his later years in Kentucky, where retirement meant more time with his beloved wife, Jennifer Bailey Pierson, and the family he cherished so deeply. Whether gathered around the table, sharing stories, or enjoying quiet moments at home with his two faithful dogs rarely far from his side, he treasured the gift of simply being together. His love stretched across miles as well, remaining steadfast for all his children—Troy, Kara, Collin, and Bailey—each of whom he adored and encouraged with pride.
Doug was the best kind of husband, father, uncle, in-law, friend, and "coach." He loved all things sports, especially cheering on his Washington Redskins and Washington Nationals. He was an avid reader who believed deeply in the beauty of print and often joked that he might open a newspaper store to preserve what he saw as a lost art. You were quickly counted as a close friend if you took him to a bookstore, a library, or out for a piece of cake.
He was strong—both physically and mentally—and seemed capable of outrunning anyone. But his greatest strength was his kindness. Doug never met a stranger. He greeted every person with warmth, humor, and genuine interest, making each soul feel seen and valued. His quick wit and perfectly timed one-liners kept those around him laughing, while his gentle spirit and deep faith grounded his family in love.
He was the best parts of all of us, and he showed us—quietly and consistently—what it looks like to live a life marked by compassion, humility, and steadfast faith. He loved deeply, believed fully, and reminded those around him, often and sincerely, that they were loved.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Bailey Pierson; his children, Troy, Kara, Collin, and Bailey; his brother, James Pierson; and his extended family who loved him deeply.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, April 10th, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Danville, Kentucky (180 Bold Venture, Danville, KY 40422). Visitation will take place from 3:00–5:00 PM, followed by a service at 5:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org, or the University of KY Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, in honor of Doug and the compassionate care they provide.
Though we miss him dearly, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a race faithfully finished.
