Barbara Jean "Cookie" Tarter, 84, of Moreland, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2025. Born in Forkland on August 26, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Noble Daugherty and the late Marie Marlowe.

Cookie was a member of Junction City First Baptist where she was a volunteer for Celebrate Recovery. Cookie was a beautician for over 35 years. She took great delight in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Cookie loved her dogs.

Cookie is survived by her sons: Nick (Glenda) Murphy of Elizabethtown, Tom Murphy of GA, and Billy Ray (Kristy) Tarter of Moreland; daughters: Kelly Tarter of Stanford and Hilary (Bobby) Kendrick of Harrodsburg; sisters: Lois (Paul) Floyd of Pikeville and Pat Seay of Junction City; brothers: Ralph (Judy) Daugherty of KS and Buddy (Shirley) Daugherty of Mercer County; 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Cookie was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Jean Tarter; daughters: Michelle and Holly; sister, Ruth Ziemniak; and grandson, Jordan Murphy.

Visitation is 12:00 PM- 2:00 PM Friday at Junction City First Baptist Church. Funeral service will be Friday at 2:00 PM with Dr. Choe Sergent officiating. Burial will follow in Junction City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Bastin, Shane Bastin, Zach Murphy, Alex Murphy, Jacob Tarter, and Gavin Tarter.
