Brian Michael
Carter
Nov 3, 1969 — Feb 5, 2021
Lancaster
Brian Michael Carter, 51, of Lancaster passed away on February 5, 2021. Brian was a much-respected and admired member of the community, and he had overcome much adversity in his life. He was totally blind from the age of 4, having been born with a rare type of retina cancer.
Brian graduated from Garrard County High School in 1988 and later graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in telecommunications. While at UK, he was a member of Golden Key National Honor Society. He worked part-time at WRNZ as a disc jockey and as an engineer running the boards during sports broadcasts. Brian also worked in the past with his late father as a color commentary broadcaster during basketball season. Amazingly, he kept track of the game's statistics throughout the broadcast, and even maintained a mental running tabulation of players' and teams' statistics all season long.
He loved sports of all kinds and was a huge supporter of the Garrard County Golden Lions, the Kentucky Wildcats, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing, and his favorite thing in the world was spending time with his nephews and spoiling them.
Brian was preceded in death by his father, Michael White Carter. He is survived by his mother, Betty Jo Carter of Lancaster; his younger sister, Nikki Carter of New York City; his younger brother, Joe Woody Carter (Kyla) of Lancaster, and his nephews: Bennett and Maddox Carter.
Those who were lucky enough to know Brian can attest to what a brilliant mind he had, what a great friend he was, and what a good person he was. His family, friends, and community will miss him terribly.
