In Loving Memory of William Franklin "Bill" Woodrum, Beloved Husband, Father, Friend and "Poppy"
Bill Woodrum, a man of boundless love, creativity, and faith, passed away on December 31, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on May 30, 1942, in Lexington, KY, he lived a life that enriched the hearts and lives of everyone who knew him.
For 48 wonderful years, he was the devoted husband to Sharon O. Woodrum, his life partner and co-creator of countless magical moments for their family. Together, they raised four children: William G. (Sarah) Woodrum, Stefanie L. Padgett (AJ Mullins), Jennifer S. (Robert) Hurt, and Erin Lewis. He also was very proud of his nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Chase and McKenna and survived by Myles, Olivia, Lauren, Connor, Corwin, Ashlyn, and Madelyn and two great-grandchildren, Molly Ann and Avery Kate, each a cherished "piece of his pie" including dear family friend, Gerald Oblisk.
Affectionately called "Poppy," he was a one-of-a-kind father who turned everyday moments into extraordinary memories. From preparing elaborate family dinners to making every holiday a magical experience, he created a childhood full of love, laughter, and wonder.
A proud US Marine and Vietnam War veteran, Poppy deeply loved his country and raised his family to share his pride and respect for the values he held dear.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, and a Doctorate of Arts in Language Studies.
In addition to being a published author, playwright, and masterful storyteller, Poppy was a commissioned folk artist. His creative spirit knew no bounds, and he spent much of his time crafting bespoke art pieces that reflected his unique vision and deep appreciation for beauty. His artwork, like his stories, touched hearts and left lasting impressions on everyone who experienced it.
His relationship with God was the cornerstone of his life. Poppy never hesitated to share his faith, joyfully telling everyone he met about Jesus and the transformative impact of His love. He was a faithful member of Our Savior Lutheran Church where he served as a deacon.
Poppy loved fiercely and fully with a heart as big as the world itself. His family was his everything, and his legacy of love, creativity, and faith will live on through the traditions, stories, and values he passed down.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Olivia Woodrum, his 4 children, and 7 grandchildren, who will forever carry the light of his love.
