Obituary

William "Bill" Duke, Jr., 83, of Danville, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024. Born in Lexington on November 28, 1941, he was the son of the late William Duke, Sr. and the late Marie Geneva Curtis Toomey.

Bill drove a bus for LexTran for 33 years. He had also worked on horse farms and at Keeneland prior to bus driving. He enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo. Bill also enjoyed fishing, boating, and working with horses in his younger years.

Bill is survived by his wife of 26 years, Emile Atwood Duke of Danville; sons: Mark (Pamela) Duke of Nicholasville and Johnny Duke of Lexington; daughters: Mary Ann (Tim) Cheatham of Bowling Green and Mae (Buddy) Berryman of Danville; stepdaughters: Vicky (Kenneth) Ayers of Lexington, Nancy (Paul) Minor-Worley of Danville, and Debra Whaley of Danville; sisters; Elsie Marie Sowder of Georgetown, and Elizabeth Cole of Clay City; brothers: Mike (Donna) Duke of OK, Joe Duke of OK, and Randy Duke of Lexington; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Little Vicky Duke and Mary Jean Works.

Visitation is 5:00 PM-8:00 PM, Thursday, January 2, 2025, at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jonathan Mercill officiating. Burial will follow in Caney Fork Cemetery.
