Ollie Eugene “Gene” Southerland, 76, of Maxey Valley Passed Away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at home. Born July 13, 1935 in Casey Co. he was the son of the late Lewis Southerland and Mary Etta Rayborn Southerland. Gene was a Christian and a retired Mechanic. He enjoyed mowing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Dollie “Dimple” Simpson and Mable Carey, his son in law, Billy Ray Douglas and his brother in law, Roy Maxey.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Effie Southerland; 4 daughters, Linda Douglas, Bonnie (Curtis) Evans, Glenda (Paul) Smith and Kathy Southerland; 1 son, Michael (Debbie) Southerland; 2 sisters: Margaret Maxey and Pat (Joe) McCowan; 8 grandchildren: Michelle Bonham, Shaun and Derek Southerland, Ashley Dunn, Amanda Smith, Christopher and Nikki Gooch and Samantha Douglas and 1 great granddaughter, Isabella Bonham.

Services will be 2 PM, Tues. at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. James Harley with burial in Hustonville Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-9 on Monday.

Pallbearers will be Shaun and Derek Southerland, Christopher Gooch, Nick Dunn, Johnny Reed, Johnnie Stinnett, Curtis Evans and Paul Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Ellis and Dr. Finley Hendrickson.
